Gundam 00: Regene Legetta

‘リジェネ。レジェっタ
ルイスを連行している謎の青年’
….is what they said in Official File #6 which I just bought today.
Translation:
‘Regene Legetta:
A mysterious young man travelling (?) with Louise.’ (not too sure about travelling. Renkou suru. Just think along the lines of travelling.)
YOUNG MAN?!?!?!?!
MAN?!

WTF?
Edit/Note.

Seinen 青年 in Chinese means youth, but refers more to males. Referring to youths as a group you use 青年, but if I remember correctly you don’t really use it on girls. In Japanese it leans more to males, meaning ‘young man’, but still has the collective youth meaning of the word. Dr Clarke of Hokkaido University said a line ‘Boys, be ambitious!’ except in Japanese but I forgot the exact wording in Japanese, except that he used Seinen. And that line is an official translation.

Although seinen in Japanese can be used to refer to youth, nobody goes up to a girl and terms her as a seinen. Although for things in official documents 青年 does refer more to the whole youth population instead of guys specifically, you kinda have to refer to the context.

And also, anime and manga are classifed into ‘Shounen, shoujo, seinen, josei’ young boys, young girls, young men, women, for a reason.

So in this context, yes, I do believe Regene Legetta is a male.

Well. We’ll see in Season 2.

  1. After looking at ‘him’ more deeply, you might be right!
